Magazin, a shop using points instead of money, was established to efficiently and effectively provide in-kind support to people with experience of migration, including refugees.
Magazin is located at ul. Krucza 6/14b, Warsaw, in a building next to the Ocalenie Foundation’s office (ul. Krucza 6/14a). It resembles a secondhand store. Clients can stock up on clothes, shoes, cosmetics, cleaning supplies, bedding, and other necessary items, depending on what is currently available.
Magazin works on a timeslot basis. A person who needs in-kind support registers at the Help Center for Foreigners and then, through an online form, signs up for Magazin for a specific day and time. The interest in Magazin is huge, so there are times when clients have to wait for an opportunity to obtain support.
Each person or family gets a certain number of points for purchases. Using their points, Magazin clients can independently choose the things they need and like, just like in an ordinary store. This way we want to make people comfortable, because we know that the need to resort to in-kind help can be hard for clients to accept.
The Magazin team also organizes on-call services for people from vulnerable groups (such as the elderly or disabled), so that they can benefit from in-kind support as easily as possible.
In 2023, 4,709 people, including 2,008 children, benefited from Magazin’s services.
