Matvii and his mother fled to Poland from war-torn Ukraine. Matvii’s mother turned to our Help Center for Foreigners because she had been unable to enroll her son in school for a long time. The facility refused to enroll the child because the mother did not have a lease on her apartment. It is worth adding that for people with her status, a lease agreement is not necessary for the school to accept the child.
The family was taken care of by our mentor, Iryna. She made phone calls to the education department, wrote letters, and finally won over the bureaucratic machinery. Matvii was admitted to the school, which had previously refused him. Out of gratitude, he gave Iryna a drawing depicting a boy walking to school. Iryna admits that she was very touched by this gift.
After the end of the school year, Matvii’s mother published a post on her Facebook profile, in which she wrote that her son had excelled in his new school. She also showed photos of the diplomas and awards the boy received.
We are happy that Matvii enjoys his new school and that he can learn and develop without obstacles in Poland!
Our Help Center for Foreigners supports migrants, including refugees, in building a good life in Poland.
